It was founded in 2016 by a seasoned educationist who served with the Ghana Education Service for over four decades. She held the position of Director of Education and also served as the Guidance and Counselling Coordinator for the Ablekuma Central District. She is Madam Matilda Acheampong.

St. Matilda's School opens its doors with 4 students and 2 facilitators who where commitment to innovative teaching methods and holistic development.
In 2021, the school officially changed its name from Criddle to Crayon to St Matilda's School, marking a new chapter of growth, excellence, and continued commitment to quality education.
In 2023, the school expanded from a preschool into a full primary school, established a modern ICT center, and enhanced security with the installation of digital surveillance cameras.
